Ingredients (Measurement Conversion Calculator) Cardamom - 5
Basmati Rice - 500 gm
Cinnamon stick - 1, big
Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
Salt - to taste
Cloves - 4
Ghee or Butter - 70 gm
Water - 1 litre
Bay leaf - 1 gm
Onion - 120 gm
Fresh Coriander leaves - 1 bunc
Directions
Wash the rice and keep soaked in water for 1 hour. Strain the water and let it dry. Chop the onions. Heat ghee / butter in a pan and fry the onions until brown. Keep the fried onions separately. Add cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf and cardamom to the pan and fry a little. Mix the turmeric powder in little water and add the mixture to the contents. Stir well for few minutes. Add water and salt to the pan. Cover the pan and let the rice cook in low heat. When cooked, remove the pan from heat and keep it covered for few more minutes. Serve hot, garnished with fried onions and fresh coriander leaves. Any Indian curry can be served with this rice item.
