Ingredients (Measurement Conversion Calculator) Cinnamon - 2 1/2 gm
Cloves - 5
Salt - to tast
Basmati rice - 500 gm
Bay leaf - 1 gm
Onion - 120 gm
Butter or ghee - 75 gm
Fennel - 1 gm
Cardamon - 3 1/2 gm
Directions
Chop the onions. Wash the rice and keep soaked in water for an hour. Strain the water and let it dry. Heat the butter / ghee in a pan and fry the onions until brown. Remove them from the pan. Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and fennel to the oil and fry a little. Add the rice to the oil and fry a little. Then add water to the rice. The proportion of rice to water should be 1:2. Add salt, cover the pan and let the rice cook in low heat. Once the rice is cooked, remove the pan from heat. Keep it covered for few more minutes. Serve hot, garnished with the fried onions. Any Indian curry can be served with this rice item.
